About Scarborough

Scarborough was the country’s first seaside resort and continues to be the 3rd most visited town or city in the UK to this day. A great choice for a short break or a weekend away, this popular Yorkshire coast town offers a wide range of attractions, events and quality hotels.

Scarborough’s 11th century castle sits a top of a large rocky headland which splits the town’s two beaches. The two Bays are linked by Marine Drive, a Victorian promenade built around the base of the headland. South Bay, the site of the town’s original settlement, is still the most popular with tourists, due to its sandy beach, amusement arcades, theatres, entertainment and historic Spa. The North Bay tends to be more popular with young families due to its Blue Flag award-winning beach and more peaceful environment.

North Bay is also home of Peasholm Park. Here, throughout the summer, you can enjoy the famous ‘Naval Warfare’ a model boat battle that takes place in the park’s lake. You’ll also find North Bay Railway at Peasholm, a historic miniature railway which runs 3/4 of a mile to Scalby Mills, home of Scarborough Sea Life Centre.

You will also find the recently renovated Open Air Theatre in Scarborough’s North Bay. Opened by her Majesty the Queen in 2010 it is currently Europe’s largest open air theatre and hosts music events and entertainment.
